Baby Update

Morning lovelies! It will be two weeks tomorrow since Luca was born so figured this would be a good time to give you all a little baby update! Here are some random shots via the camera roll and whats been going down over here lately…..

(A lot of you asked if I wore a special maternity gown for the birth and I didn’t. Nothing fancy over here for this delivery! Just the practical hospital gown and goodies they provide and some iPhone pics for memories)
I don’t plan on doing an in depth birth story because to be honest this one FLEW by but I can share the highlights for those of you who are interested. I woke up Feb 3rd. at 5 a.m. with what I thought were Braxton Hicks and quickly realized they were the real deal. We called up the in laws and had them come over to watch Ava and we quickly headed to the hospital. My water did not break this time around but contractions were coming every 4 minutes and lasting a minute each. I 100% believe in an epidural (I also had one with Ava) and after about 3 hours of contractions I got one and it was BLISS! Without the intense pain I felt like I could really enjoy the experience. This labor was so much shorter than Ava’s. I think I was on in labor for about 6 hours and he was here!
Daddy in waiting xo
Our nurses were SO awesome and having this ocean view during labor was pretty amazing too!
There’s no better moment than meeting the little man who i’d become so familiar with all his movements in my tummy.

Luckily we only had to stay one night in the hospital this time and were back home to Ava within 24 hrs. Thankfully she did really well the one night we had to be away from her. We did stock the grandparents with a couple new toys to distract when she started asking for mommy and daddy.
(Babe on the boob…How I get my emails done these days 😉
Breastfeeding is going really well! I plan on introducing a bottle soon though just so I can buy a much needed hour of freedom here or there! We are definitely a bit sleep deprived right now. Luca wakes up every couple hours to eat and luckily most of the time he goes right back down. I am noticing that his “wake” period seems to be from 10:30pm to 12:30am  ;(  Needless to say we’re looking forward to the weeks when he starts sleeping more at night but surprisingly it doesn’t feel as hard as it did the first time around. I don’t know if its because we’ve been down this road before and kind of know what to expect but I definitely feel more at ease and even find myself enjoying the quiet middle of the night feeding and cuddling sessions.
Speaking of that I know a lot of you were asking how the placenta encapsulation pills were going. Well its been two weeks and I still haven’t taken them yet! I STILL have a little cold/cough and it has lasted forever! The Doula told me not to take the pills if you’re sick because it could amplify those symptoms. So i’m still waiting to kick this cold completely before I start them. Knock on wood but as of yet I haven’t had any of those baby blues! With Ava I got them  much the day after I delivered so here’s to hoping they don’t pop up down the road. I still planning on taking my placenta pills as soon as this cold fully subsides and will keep you posted on that.
(Daddy’s attempt to keep him up in the evening usually ends up looking like this lol)

Luca blends right in with our little family and it was complete love at first site with this little man! I instantly fell in love with Ava when she was born as well butttt I was so anxious and clueless of what to expect that I think that kind of stood in the way of being able to soak up all of her sweetness right away. I’m afraid to say it because I don’t want to jinx myself but Luca seems to be a bit more mellow than his sister was at this age. I can’t really comment on how crazy life is with two just yet because he sleeps most of the day and we have both sets of grandparents in town helping out. The true test will be next month when they’re gone and Luca is more awake during the day! Wish me luck!
I’ll be honest the biggest challenge right now is Ava adjusting to our new addition. She is super excited and interested in him BUT she is really acting out for attention. We both are giving her TONS but she is just on another level right now.  She is testing us ALL the time so lord help me with my patience puhhhlease! I’m hoping when the newness of him being here wears off she will be a little less needy soon. I am also looking forward to introducing a bottle to Luca so hopefully I can sneak away with Ava for just some one on one time with her. Okay I am sure there are a bunch of other tid bits I forgot to mention but one babe is waking up and needs to be fed and the other needs to be put down for her nap…mom life 😉

Thank you ladies for all your sweet comments on the pics I posted of him on Instagram! I plan on doing a post later this week with all my must have baby gear too! Hope you all are have a great week and if you have specific questions you can leave them in the comments below and i’ll try to answer them! Xo

  1. I'm so happy you all are adjusting well ( although poor Ava seems a little out of sorts). I'm sure she will come around soon! I'm an only child so I can't speak to that but I've heard so many siblings experience that when they are so little. I hope you get some rest! Congratulations:)

  2. So Happy for you!!!! Sending you lots of love and I am sure you sill sail through this period very easily. I'm sure it will be a relief once little Luca is on the bottle a little bit. God bless! 🙂

  3. congrats!!! my baby just turned 8 months and my big one is 2 (they're 20 months apart) and it was a big adjustment at first but now it's like he's always had a little brother, it gets easier!

  4. Gosh Andee, you are one of the most beautiful and humble bloggers out there…and add to that a wonderful momma! You are such an inspiration and a great example for young women. Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy!

  5. Congrats again Andee! He is just so precious and gotta love Hoag for the view! 😉 Looking forward to reading about the placenta encapsulation and Ava's transition for future reference and tips! Enjoy all the sweet snuggles!

Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful moments. Just curious ….for how long did you push for? I delivered on February 13 and I was in labor for 24 hours and pushed for 3 hours…this was my first though. Thank you

    1. you know both pushing was super quick…. Luca only 5 mins and Ava probably only about 10! Yikes sorry you pushed for so long! Your second should probably be a lot sooner if you're planning on more xo

  7. SO sweet! Uhg, I'm so nervous for when we bring the babe home – Sophia is already acting cray cray these days (but it might have to do with the freezing temps + being stuck inside), but I'm sure she will be on Ava's level right away…if only we still lived close, we could throw them in the back yard together 😉 ha! SO happy to hear the blues are steering clear, yaaay!! Gotta love the ocean view room!! xx B

    1. ugh girl I wish! With two babes you definitely need people with kiddos to just come over to your house lol We thought it was tough trying to entertain one when were out. Stephen and I have a tag team effect going on over here 😉 Cant believe you're in the home stretch now too!!!

  8. Hi Andee, I've followed your blog for awhile now and I love it! I have to tell you, when our second baby was born, my 2 year old son started acting out BIG time…like a complete and total emotional wreck. This book did wonders for us: http://www.amazon.com/1-2-3-Magic-Effective-Discipline-Children-ebook/dp/B004GB1G2U/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1424586663&sr=1-2&keywords=123+magic

It brought some much needed sanity back to our lives…I highly recommend it! 🙂

  9. Congrats!! I had my little man on the 1st of Feb, so our kiddos were born just days apart. It's exhausting but so worth it, isn't it? All the best to your sweet family!
