Honeybee Home: My Makeup Vanity

Alright ladies, let the home posts begin! Thank you girls who have all been so patiently awaiting new home posts. We moved in about 6 months ago and can finally say I feel like we’re almost done! There is still some styling to be done (and hopefully a full video home tour in the future), but for now, thought I would kick my Honeybee Home series off with some areas that are fully finished. Today I’m sharing a peek into my new makeup vanity section!

First, let me start by saying this section of the house came with its share of headaches but it’s now one of my favorite spaces in our new home. About half way through the design process, I realized we didn’t make a space in the bathroom for a makeup vanity. That was huge fail on my end as someone who loves to sit and do my hair and makeup.

We had drawn up his and her sinks but no space to sit or store my makeup (hubby is a neat freak and HATED seeing all my products across the counter in our old home) 😉 So you girls may remember from my “NEW HOME” highlights tab on my Instagram that we came up with an idea to build a tall built-in makeup vanity that also had stacked shelving that went up top of the wall (hit right before the open wood beams).

Well, as soon as they installed it I just knew it wasn’t going to work. Our architect (Eric Olsen) created this amazing design  with sky lights that had a very open, airy and light feel, but once the new piece was installed it immediately felt dark, heavy and closed. I knew we had to change it. I had them recreate the makeup vanity but only keeping the bottom portion and leaving the top half open for an oversized mirror. My interior designer (Raili CA Design) suggested adding a really fun wallpaper and it made all the difference. I found this marble like wall paper and immediately knew it was the one!

I will say I’m pretty masculine when it comes to the majority of home decor but in my closet/vanity section I felt like it’s a place I was open to going a little more girly and feminine. I went with brass, faux fur and more dainty table top accessory styling….

I love These Glass Boxes and purchased them in two sizes (here’s a similar look from Amazon!). They’re pretty enough for tabletop display and functional too! I used one for products and fresh flowers and the other as a sunglass storage case.

I kept it pretty simple with some stacked books, an antiqued brass mirror  (also love this similar one from Amazon), glass boxes, hat stand and acrylic picture frames.

Tabletop Styling

An oversized mirror (this one is 48 inches) and a fun stool were at the top of my list! A lot of you had asked about the paint color and it’s Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron (it’s more of a charcoal gray in person but shows slightly blue in these pics for some reason). As mentioned above we had the vanity desk custom built, but you can honestly recreate this look yourself whatever your space size is! Here are a few of my favorite ready-made desks and stools…

And that’s my new makeup vanity section! It truly turned our better than I could have imagined and i’m SO in love with it! There were definitely some headaches along the way but in the end I think the change fees turned out to be worth it!
