My First Experience with Natural Deodorant

It’s been a minute since I’ve done a beauty post for you girls, and I’m so excited to share today’s. It’s not as glamorous as a makeup routine, but it’s something i’ve been wanting to try for awhile. While I love sharing fun stuff like tutorials, I also like sharing real products I’m using on the reg – whether that be makeup or something practical like deodorant. So let’s talk about my first experience with natural deodorant!

I’ve obviously used deodorant for decades, but it wasn’t until recently that I started hearing more about “natural” deodorant. Turns out, a lot of mainstream deodorants contain some pretty harsh chemicals, the main being aluminum. Some studies have even shown a link between aluminum in our systems and really scary issues like breast cancer. I won’t pretend like I’m a doctor and know everything there is to know, but working a bit with Native has taught me so much. I figure, if I can make a big impact on my health by just switching my deodorant, then why not, right?

Native is a non-toxic deodorant with over 6,000 5-star reviews, so it’s safe to say people love their product. I was super excited to try it but also skeptical that it would really work. After a couple weeks of using it,  I have to say I’m obsessed!

I will say, making the switch to non-toxic deodorant comes with a couple things to get used to. Just keeping it real here! It took my body about a week to adjust to life without the chemicals, but I’d just reapply more often. Also, you sweat a little bit more – which hear me out, is actually a good thing! When we use deodorants or antiperspirants that keep us from not sweating at all, our toxins don’t have anywhere to go (and just keep them in our body). Sweating is our bodies natural way of releasing these toxins. So you do sweat a little bit more under the arms, but it was nothing I couldn’t handle – I did want to note it though. Again, I’ve noticed that my body has caught up with the new product though and I’m not having an issue with the sweat part. It’s even been holding up against boot camp and long days chasing around my wild kiddos which is sayin a lot 😉

On top of loving Native because it’s natural and free of so many chemicals and instead made with wholesome ingredients, I also can’t tell you girls enough about the scents.  They have a few different varieties like Coconut & Vanilla, Lavender & Rose and even Pumpkin Spice Latte 😉 for my pumpkin everything lovers 😉  They all smell soooo good, and i’m especially obsessed with the Eucalyptus & Mint one.

If you girls have been on the fence about trying Native, I can’t recommend it enough. They actually offer free returns in the US, so if for some reason it’s not your thing, it’s easy to return. And for all you girls with a million things going on (sounds familiar!), I love Native’s ‘subscribe & save’ deal. Basically you can subscribe to your products being delivered every 1, 2, 3, or 4 months and you save $2 a per stick. How genius is that? So if you’ve been thinking about trying a natural deodorant I definitely recommend checking out this one!

Let me know if you girls have tried Native before and your thoughts!  I always love hearing your experiences too!

  1. LOVE LOVE NATIVE! I’ve been using it over 2 years and have a stockpile of all the limited edition scents. I have found it will stain the armpits of my white shirts yellow bc of the coconut oil base but I use a mix of baking soda, blue dawn, and peroxide, apply as a paste and let it sit and it gets them right out.

  2. I have been on a journey with natural deo for awhile now (maybe 2 years), and while I have never tried Native I have tried quite a few! This month I broke down and bought the Kopari natural coconut oil deodorant (Sephora carries it) because of so many rave reviews. I was hesitant to purchase since it’s $14+, but honestly – worth. it. It has the sweetest, yummiest coconut scent that is almost like a perfume but doesn’t irritate my skin. It’s worth a try if you’re looking to test a few natural deos out!

      1. I’ve noticed I either sweat a bit less compared to other natural deodorants or about the same if I’m doing a lot of walking/physical activities. A plus side to Kopari is that it is NOT made with baking soda, which is found in most natural deodorants and is known to causes rashes (v uncomfortable in that region! lol) – so even if you do sweat throughout the day wearing Kopari, you won’t have any skin irritation that you might experience from other natural deodorants wearing off. Hope that helps!

  3. Shmidt’s Naturals is also a great vegan/cruelty-free all natural deo. It’s coconut wax. They have amazing scents and one for sensitive skin that is phenomenal. I personally love it.
