Beauty Talk Tuesday // My Favorite Foundations

I meant to have this post up yesterday but I had also been wanting to share our Park City Recap with you girls who had been asking. So sorry for the delay but here is this weeks Beauty Talk Tuesday post (on a Wednesday 😉 )  Today i’m sharing my favorite foundations, my go to primer and favorite budget friendly brushes.

Now I am a girl who is CONSTANTLY trying new foundations. I don’t know why but even if I find one I love, i’m always trying out new ones. That being said, there are a few foundations that I will always rebuy.

doublewearfoundation

My most worn foundations right now are Double Wear Light and MUFE HD Foundation. I have been a HUGE fan of Estee Lauder for years. I first started out using their Double Wear foundation which is a FULL coverage foundation. After about a year  I thought I wanted something a little lighter and I stumbled across their Double Wear Light version and have been hooked ever since! When I shoot my looks for the blog or attend events I am pretty much ALWAYS wearing Double Wear Light. It’s a medium to full coverage foundation and it seriously does.not. budge. It photographs really well and honestly needs no retouching throughout the day. I wear
“3.0” in the Double Wear Light foundation. If you like a little fuller coverage that lasts all day, definitely check this one out.

Estee Lauder recently sent me the Estee Lauder Radiance foundation  (in the color Tawny) and i’ve been using it quite a bit as well. I LOVE the packaging, the coverage is great and it has more of a dewy/moisturizing finish compared to the Double Wear Light. Honestly they’re both really great but I think I still like the Double Wear Light more because I can go all day without touching up.

My other go to favorite is MUFE HD Foundation. If you wan’t something a little lighter and not as heavy give this foundation a go. It goes on so smoothly, has medium to full coverage and feels super light weight too. I wear it in color #127.

As far as a primer I have am hooked on Smashbox Photofinish Light Primer. It just feels so good on my skin and works really well. One of you recommend Laura Mercier primer so I may have to try that one too.

Speaking of Laura Mercier I also used to use Laura Mericer Silk Creme foundation. I love the color (cashew beige) and how easily it glides on but I havent been reaching for it as much because I find it settled into my fine lines and wrinkles more than the others (anyone else experience that too?). Another Favorite I also loved was the Armani Silk Foundation.

I haven’t used a drug store foundation in forever (L’oreal True Match is the only one I remember loving from years ago) but PLEASE feel free to share your high and low end favorites. Like I said I ALWAYS love to hear what you girls are using!

BRUSHES

Now lets talk application! I am going to attempt share some mini tutorials soon but wanted to touch on what I use to apply my foundation.  I know a lot girls are huge beauty blender fans but I still just haven’t got on board with one. I have purchased several but then I always end up going back to my foundation brush. I used This One from Mac for years but started to find that brush hairs shed kind of quickly. So I switched to This Drug Store Brush (it’s the largest one in the set)  over a year ago and it’s been great! Actually I have THIS Whole Kit that I use pretty much daily. I use This One for blending out my contour, This One for applying my highlighter and I actually have two of them because I use the other one for my concealer. I’m not sure if you girls are familiar with the YouTubers that designed this line but they used to be the only beauty channel I watched religiously (before kids… now I wish I had the time to sit down and watch them ;(( I feel like they did such an awesome job with their whole line of brushes. They aren’t the prettiest packaging but they work really great especially for the price point.

Speaking of brushes, i’m SO curious about These Brushes. I’m sure you girls have seen them all over instagram and they look so amazing and fun to use but they’re CRAZY expensive. I’ve also seen cheaper versions but wondering if they work as well? Have any of you tried them?

Now lemme be honest and say i’m definitely not a gal that runs around town makeup free. Even to the gym I feel like I need at least a little concealer and tinted moisturizer to help keep me from looking like death 😉

I just started using This One that was recommended to me and I really like it. It has good coverage for when you just need a little something and is supposed to be good for your skin as well. It’s lightweight, breathable and has skin protection in it too. I wear it in the color “beige”.

And lastly I just picked up  This Loose Mineral Sunscreen  powder stick as I’ve heard from a few friends that it’s great. I’ve been trying to be a little more proactive about skin care prevention and this one has an SPF of 50 in it! I plan on keeping it in my car for touch ups on the go. I’ll check back in with how I like it in a few weeks for you girls that are interested.

Okay I know this was a lot of info but hope it was helpful for you girls! I’d love to know what foundations you swear by too!

  1. I am a total foundation junkie too….I just like trying new ones. I will say that the Artis Oval 10 foundation brush is absolutely worth the money. Maybe not a full set, but for foundation it applies it flawlessly. I used to use a NARS foundation brush, and a beauty blender, and now I don’t think I could use anything else!

    1. oh dang okay good to know then I will definitely have to look into try them out! Do you just used the beauty blender after you put your foundation on with a brush first?

  2. Good morning Andee, your skin is always looking flawless! I was wondering if you use a setting powder after applying foundation? I love how you wear foundation but keep your makeup minimal. You don’t overdue it and I could tell you are naturally beautiful!

    1. awww thank you so much for such a nice compliment love. I probably should have mentioned my go to setting powder is MUFE HD powder (but ELF makes a budget friendly option I wanted to try out first and see if it could save you girls a little money). I will say though that with the double wear light I pretty much never even have to wear a finishing powder.

      1. Awe thank you Andee 🙂 I don’t wear foundation but I am looking for a lightweight option and I want to try the double wear light just because you always look gorg!

  3. Hi Andee! Love your blog- have been reading for years now!
Would you say that the Sunforgettable Stick provides much coverage? I am very minimal when it comes to makeup and typically moisturize and then just a few swipes of Mac powder to cancel out any redness around my nose area…Just wondering if this would be better than what I’m currently using from Mac!
    Thanks in advance!

    1. you know i havent used mine yet as i just ordered it but i am assuming it similar to like bare minerals makeup and would be very light weight. I will definitely keep you girls posted for sure! xo

  4. A great finishing powder that’s been all the rage this last year is the RCMA no color powder. Affordable too and works like a charm.

  5. Your makeup is always on point! I would looooove to see a video of you do your eyeliner! I learned about those new brushes a while back and went for the investment. Mine are from Artis (the original brand I believe) and I got a set of 4 brushes for about ~$100 on HSN…the brushes though are amazing!!! I would totally recommend for quick, flawless makeup. I can do all my face makeup with the brushes in about 5 minutes or less! The brushes are great for blending, giving you a natural look and best part is it only takes a couple strokes to apply! Totally recommend

    1. oh dang okay I think I am going to have to look into testing them out! Also yes I will definitely be doing an eyeliner tutorial for you girls as I’ve received lots of requests for one! xoox

  6. I’ve use Mac’s StudioFix for awhile now, however feel like it oxidizes quite a bit. Do you get oxidation with these foundations (particularly the ) DoubleWear?

  7. Love reading about other ladies’ makeup must haves! I rarely wear a full foundation these days. For a more finished look, I love NARS tinted moisturizer. It’s not super dewy and has medium coverage. I also love Suntegrity 5 in 1 tinted moisturizer – must have for vacations as its moisturizer, sunblock, and light coverage in one. Other favorites are IT CC cream, Bare Minerals tinted moisturizer (the prettiest finish), and RMS uncover up (applied just on uneven areas). All applied with damp beauty blender. I do keep bottles of MUFE HD and YSL foundation around but they collect dust as with an increased focus on skincare, I am digging a lighter approach to coverage. Once I hit 30 this year, I started feeling like less is more. Also LOVE diluting my TMs/bb creams with illuminator – love Becca, MAC strobe, Josie Maran illuminator, and Laura Mercier radiance primer for this purpose.

    1. oh thanks so much Bri! Someone else also recommended RMS so I’m going to have to look into that! Also want to check out the Nars tinted moisturizer…sounds like something I would totally be into! xoox

  8. I’ve been looking at those artis brushes for awhile too and keep telling myself i am really crazy to get it. I’ve heard from a lot of people that the foundation one is great especially if you like full coverage. I prefer a more sheer – medium coverage that stays place. Also almost all foundations oxidize on me. Lately I have fallen in love with La Mer’s new foundation, makes my skin look like perfect skin! I’m curious to try out the Oxygenetix Oxygenating Foundation.

  9. I love the It Cosmetics CC Cream, Diorskin Star, and Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth. My favorite brushes for applying are the Urban Decay Optical Blurring brush and the Real Techniques Expert Face brush.

  10. I am the SAME way with foundations. I own way too many! My go I recently has been the MUFE stick! I love the coverage of the regular double wear but it is pretty heavy feeling. I’ll definitely have to try the double wear light! 😉
