Ava's 8 Month Update

I’m so sorry I have seriously lagged on Ava’s update posts lately. I think the last one I did was 5.5 months! I often saw other mommy bloggers skipping the monthly updates as their babies got a bit older and now I know why. There comes a point where you are going non stop and these little ones are into EVERYTHING. We have definitely hit that stage! Lots of big milestones have happened since our last check in so i’ll get started with those!

Sleeping Through the Night: (I’m talking 12 hour stretches sleeping through the night) at 6 months. She goes down at 7pm and usually wakes up at 7am. Her naps are becoming a little longer now. She takes a morning nap for about and hour and then two more mini naps throughout the day (usually 1230 and 330). Lets just say she is a HOT mess if girlfriend doesnt get those naps!
Clothes: Ava’s wearing 12 month clothes and nothing smaller! We are about to up the diaper size and step in the size 4 territory! This little lady still has the yummiest cheeks and thighs but she has lengthened out a bit and lost some of her chub (so sad to see it go!).
Crawling: at 7 months and very shortly after started standing up. Now she is like a little money hanging on every ledge, table, chair and wall she get her little hands on! While she babbles up a storm she’s still not talking yet! I can’t wait for her first words!
First Tooth: at 6 months with the second tooth coming in two weeks after! Lets just say those were some seriously fussy weeks!
First Time on a Plane: At 7 months and you can read more about that adventure HERE.
Food: Im still breastfeeding but we did  introduce one bottle of formula a day at around 7 months. I’m going to start SLOWLY weaning her off the boob. The formula we started with was Gerber good start (because we had a sample from the pediatrician) and Ava was totally fine with it. We then switched about a week later to the Earths Best Organic brand and have been using that ever since. She’s also eating tons of fruits and vegetables (which we started at around 5.5 months). At first they were pureed but now just mushed up with a little more texture for her. Thanksgiving was the first time we introduced her to meat and she gobbled it up! Surprise surprise!

I’m still making most of her baby food but also giving her these organic Gerber baby foods and Plum Organics when I’m in a rush. I also like these Maple teething biscuits from Whole Foods. They keep her occupied  for a bit when we are out to dinner.  She also just started picking up her little cheerio type snacks with her pincers and feeding herself. It is the CUTEST! I seriously could watch her do it for an hour lol

This little peanut already has her crib lowered to the lowest setting and the camera needs to find a new spot as she likes to knock it off onto the floor!

I just can’t get enough of this sweet little face!! She is really a happy smiley baby but I can tell already this little lady has some sass! lol My favorite time with her is about an hour before bed. She gets this burst of energy and is crazzzzy! She goes nuts climbing all over us and testing out her vocal skills 😉 Im just loving every minute of this stage!!

Hopefully at our next update little Ava will be talking! I can’t wait for her to say mama!

  1. I so hope you get Mama from her! My son is 15 months old and still no mama! He walks to the bottom of the stairs and yells, "Dad! Hey you!" every morning for my husband to get up but no mama. I keep telling myself I won't be sad when starts really talking and repeats Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom over and over in the grocery store. Girls talk earlier too. Good luck!

  2. awww! I love reading about her. My baby girl is 4 months now and I like seeing what your going through and doing as a glimpse to my future with her. Your little ava is beautiful! At our 4 month check up the dr said we could start her with food, but I tried peas and she screamed the next day and I think it hurt her belly. So seeing you saying your starting it at 7 months now Im starting to agree with my friends who said dont give her food yet. YAY for 12 hours of sleep! My riley is still waking up 4 to 5 times a night to nurse!

    1. awww so glad its helpful for you 😉 I was the same way…I like following other mom bloggers with babies a little older than Ava so I get a preview as well! As for the food we saw that Ava was interested in EVERYTHING we were eating so knew it was time to start the solids! Hope you get some more sleep soon!! I remember those nights all to well!

  3. Ava is such an adorable little munchkin!!! Love reading your updates on her. She looks like a little lady in her white dress sitting with her Daddy. 🙂 I have questions for you – what were your favorite gym pants during pregnancy? Also, with a diaper bag do you also carry your own handbag? Have a few more months to go!

    1. Hi Hun! I didn't actually buy any workout pants during my pregnancy i just continued using my Lulu lemon pants and just rolled them under my belly! Also I pretty much just only bring the Marc j diaper bag out now. I don't bring a purse and diaper bag unless the hubby is with me.

  4. I love the updates on little Ava!! I look forward to them. She is one cute sassy lil Mama!! I know the feeling too of hot mess lil ladies if they don't get their nap in. LOL! Can you do a post of what a typical day is like for you and Ava? I love hearing how other mothers spend their days. And it always helps fellow mommies with ideas for their lil ones. 😉

  5. Awww Ava is just adorable, I love the photo where she's laughing at her reflection in the mirror. I wonder if at that age they've worked out whether it's their reflection in the mirror, or if they still think it's another baby. Soo cute 🙂

    1. Hi Maria we have been doing bath and nurse(or bottle) before bed since week one! Sometimes she falls asleep while nursing (even though they say you shouldn't do that) and well put her to bed while asleep. If she doesnt fall asleep while nursing we put her in her bed drowsy (which they say is how you're supposed to do it) and she will fuss for a minute but puts herself to sleep. Thats what she does now that she has learned to self soothe. At two months she didn't know how to do that bc we didn't start sleep training till 4.5 months when we moved her into her crib. At two months I would nurse her to sleep and then do a ninja move trying to transfer her into her co sleeper without waking her up. Only for her to then wake up and hour later and have to do the process all over again. Lordy how I don't miss those days lol. Hope you're having better luck at that stage! It WILL get easier though so just keep that in mind.

    2. Thanks! We also do bath and nurse before bed. She does fall asleep nursing and sleeps from 5 to 9 hours in her crib! I tried the drowsy thing and it took 2 hours to get her to go to sleep picking her up and putting her back down. I guess she is not ready for that yet. She has not learned to self soothe. What sleep training did you do and if you swaddled when did you stop? Thanks for answering all my new mom (I have become an anxious mess) questions!

    3. Don't worry were 8 months into being parents and I'm still anxious at times 🙂 So we were in the same boat as you where it took her 2 hours to go down and having to go back up and rocking/sush her back to sleep. I was beyond exhausted not to mention also waking up I think twice in the night to feed her as well. We ended up letting her cry it out for about a week. Its isn't for everyone and let me say that if I didn't have my hubby to keep me from going in and getting her we would have never been able to do it. It was a rough week but was the best thing I could of done for our family. I plan on doing the exact same thing the next go round (fingers crossed it works because all children are different) Luckily for us Ava only cried for about 25 minutes and every couple days it got shorter and shorter. Now 80% of the time she goes down without a peep! There are some naps were she will fight it a bit and cry for about 5 minutes then put herself to sleep. On rare occasion I will notice her cry is different than normal etc etc and will go in and get her (and nurse her to sleep) but pretty much since we moved her to her crib and started the CIO it was a total turn around for us. AGAIN its not for everyone (and if Ava would have been one of those babies that literally cried for an hour I definitely don't think I would have been able to do it) The only saving grace is that we saw results very quickly so that kept us motivated. As far as swaddling it works for SO many babies but Ava was fighting the swaddle since birth lol She hated her arms being tied down so we swaddled her from the waist down until she was about 3 months and no more swaddle. I hope this was helpful. Try not to stress every baby and parents are SO different so just try all your options and see what works best for you! Hope this was helpful xo

    4. Thank you. It is helpful to hear from other parents even if all babies are different! We will probably try the same thing in a few months. I can't wait to have her fall asleep on her own.

  6. Love the update! She is precious! What method did you use to sleep train? My LO will be 8 months next week and still isn't sleeping the night 🙁 any recommendations would be much appreciated! Thanks Andee!

    1. thanks hun…we tried a combo of different methods. I read the lullaby sleep plan as well as baby wise and kind of combined the two. We let her cry it out for a short period of time and even though it was an extremely rough week or two for us it ended up paying off in the end. The key is picking something you can do and STICKING to it. You have to find the method that is right for you and your family! So good luck love! I know they say the older they get the harder it is as well. XO

  7. you have a picture perfect family andee! Ive been eyeing that velvet american apparel dress that you used to have on their website, but cant decide! Its for a holiday party…did you like it and is it worth the money?

    1. thanks so much hun! I lLOVED that dress and the fit was great! I only sold mine because i hadn't worn it in awhile. Check ebay you can probably find it much cheaper if you don't want to pay full price xo

  8. Ava is seriously the cutest thing ever…can I please tell you I am behind and haven't posted CC's 8 month update yet either–oops!

12 month clothes??? GROWING girl indeed!!! Getting cuter each and everyday!! OXOX

    1. lol I didn't think it was possible for us to be more busy but after that crawling stage started I seriously don't know where the time goes now! Glad I'm not the only one! xo

  9. She is the cutest! Did you feed Ava any type of cereal (rice or oatmeal)? I have a 5 month old and I'm deciding which cereal to try soon. Which one did you use?

  10. Hi Andee ! I've been reading your blog for awhile even LOVE the Mommy updates even though I don't have kids and now that I'm preggo I'm even more interested in your blog posts 🙂 I was wondering if the crib pictured in the 8 month update is from Pottery Barn? and did you nurse or pump? and until how old you did it?
